Zynga Executive Bails Amidst Controversy

Embattled gaming firm Zynga is reeling from another debacle in the headlines today.

On Thursday, word broke that the company’s chief operating officer John Schappert has abruptly departed from Zynga at a time when nothing appears to be going right for the social gaming giant.

The resignation comes amidst a recent talent shakeup meant to give the company’s investors renewed hope and optimism about Zynga’s future.

The resignation in question, Reuters confirmed, wasn’t the result of “any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices.”

But it came as no surprise to Zynga’s followers after the social gaming company behind Facebook-based hits like “FarmVille” said earlier this month that Schappert had ceded many of his game development responsibilities while Zynga shuffled its top management ranks after reporting a net loss for its second quarter.

Zynga has not yet formally announced a replacement for Schappert.
