On Thursday, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the achievement of a milestone we all knew was coming.
“This morning,” the social networking guru revealed, “there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.”
Approximately half of all Facebook users now access the platform regularly via mobile device.
“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life,” Zuckerberg added.
Based on the recent growth patterns observed at the social network, some didn’t expect Facebook to reach the one billion user mark until later in the year or after the start of 2013.
“I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you,” Zuckerberg concluded, “and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”
