Yummy Mobile Recipes

Quick Site Description:
Allrecipes is a recipe site with more than 40,000 free recipes created, tested, reviewed and approved by home cooks.

First Impression:
The home page consists of only a Search box and a link to an Ingredient Search. Right away I wish there were at least a few suggestions for me to choose between. If I am accessing a recipe site via mobile then I may be hoping not to have to make any more decisions at the moment.

What’s Here:
Recipes! There are tons of them, searchable by ingredient and also by meal (breakfast, brunch, lunch, inner, etc) or by how long it will take to prepare. Each recipe gives a quick intro by the person who submitted it, the ingredients, directions, prep time, cook time and how long it will take to get it on the table.

Ease of Use:

Once I got over the fact that I had to decide something on the home page I was able to find exactly what I wanted reasonably quickly. I did a search for “chicken” and got 3,474 choices. It loaded up these thousands of recipes quick-ishly. (It would seem longer standing in a grocery store.) Then I did a search for “brunch” and got a great selection of recipes as well.

My search for “30 minute” was not quite as helpful as I got literally everything that took 30 minutes – smoothies, a carrot side dish, munchies and desserts. It would have been helpful to go to a second page that gave me choices of what kind of 30 minute recipes I was looking for – dinner, snacks, desserts, etc.

Find Stuff Factor:
Excellent. It was really easy to find recipes quickly and to look up things by what would be most helpful to me.

Best Part(s):

I love that there are photos of the food for many of the recipes. It makes it so much more fun to pick out something. And it really doesn’t seem to slow down the performance of the site.

At the bottom of each recipe is the option to change the servings that the recipe makes. This is truly wonderful. Standing in the grocery store you could easily adjust a dinner recipe to accommodate your family’s size.

Where to Use It:
The obvious use of the mobile allrecipes.com site is at the grocery store. Whether you need to decide what to make or check the ingredients of your favorite dish, it is perfect. You could also use it in a time-wasting meeting or at one of your kids’ routine events when you really want to get your own to do list done too.

Bottom Line:
This mobile site is a keeper. I can’t wait to use it next time I go grocery shopping.
