Yahoo! Takes a Look Back at the Biggest Mobile Searches of 2010

As 2010 rapidly draws to a close, Yahoo! is taking a look back at the top search topics of the year.

As noted in the Yahoo! Mobile Blog, the number of mobile searches exploded in 2010 over 2009 and will likely fall dramatically short of what 2011 has in store. Yet, despite the rampant growth of mobile search, our penchant for on-the-go browsing reflects a continuing trend. Not surprisingly, web-enabled cell phone owners use their mobile devices to get “quick, bite-size” info on the biggest headlines of the moment.

“While the search topics aren’t vastly different on mobile than PC (five out of 10 were the same, but in different order), we do know that what varies is the type of content consumers want,” the company said.

As you can imagine, the folks at Yahoo! have been tracking mobile search trends all year. And the top ten most common searches include the following topics:

  1. NFL
  2. Lady Gaga
  3. Rihanna
  4. Sandra Bullock
  5. NBA
  6. World Cup
  7. Justin Bieber
  8. American Idol
  9. Winter Olympics
  10. BP oil spill
