Yahoo confirmed Thursday that it has acquired Jybe, a popular personalized recommendation engine.
Launched two years ago after being developed by a number of former Yahoo employees, the app is being officially absorbed by Yahoo for an undisclosed sum.
If you’re unfamiliar, Jybe for iOS served up a wide assortment of tips on local events, restaurants and other happenings that you may be interested in based on your known interests and social activity.
Jay Rossiter, SVP of Cloud Platform Group at Yahoo, says Jybe’s data- and science-driven experience will supercharge Yahoo’s efforts to build great products and experiences for the millions of people who come to Yahoo! every day.
“We will be closing down the Jybe service, but we are putting together a tool so you can download and keep all your data,” Jybe said in response to the acquisition announcement. “We’re eager to start applying everything we’ve learned and built to the Yahoo platform, so stay tuned.”
