Following Thursday’s confirmation that Yahoo had acquired Jybe, a popular personalized recommendation engine, today we’re learning that Yahoo was just getting warmed up.
On Monday, Yahoo revealed that it is acquiring Summly, a mobile product company founded with a vision to simplify the way we get information, “making it faster, easier and more concise.”
The free Summly app, which has already been yanked from Apple’s App Store, has only been around since late 2012.
The app uses Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence technologies to analyze text and boost search relevance.
Incredibly, Summly’s founder Nick D’Aloisio, is only 17 years old.
“Nick and the Summly team are joining Yahoo! in the coming weeks,” explains Yahoo’s Adam Cahan. “While the Summly app will close, you will see the technology come to life throughout Yahoo!’s mobile experiences soon. So stay tuned!”
