Yahoo! Boasts About 300 Million Monthly Mobile Users

Yahoo may have its fair share of problems today, but maintaining a largely mobile audience isn’t one of them.

According to details announced during the company’s Q1 2013 earnings call this week, Yahoo now has 300 million mobile monthly users, which is up substantially from the 200 million mobile users it counted at the end of 2012.

“Mobile is not only at the center of our users’ daily habits, it is at the center of a huge industry shift in Internet access,” says Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. “This presents a tremendous opportunity for us and we are working hard to take advantage of it.”

The growth comes as Yahoo continues to pour cash into new acquisitions and strategies aimed at the mobile channel. Yahoo recently acquired, Alike, and Jybe, “further accelerating the Company’s efforts to build world-class technology and engineering teams in mobile and personalization.”

Unfortunately, Yahoo’s first quarter revenue didn’t meet Wall Street targets and its display advertising business once again saw declining sales.

Nonetheless, Mayer and company are optimistic about Yahoo’s future.

“I’m pleased with Yahoo!’s performance in the first quarter. We saw continued stability in our business, strengthened our team, and started the year with fast execution against our products and partnerships,” Mayer says. “We are moving quickly to roll out beautifully designed, more intuitive experiences for our users. I’m confident that the improvements we’re making to our products will set up the Company for long-term growth.”
