Lending further credence to the perspective that 2010 could prove the year of acquisitions in the mobile space, Yahoo has announced plans to acquire social networking solutions provider Citizen Sports.
Citizen Sports has developed a successful company widely recognized for creating sports-centric mobile apps that link fans via social networking platforms. As a result, millions around the world have used a multitude of Citizen Sports’ social and mobile products to stay connected with like-minded (or rival) sports fans.
Citizen Sports is also a well known provider of live spots sports and news for football, soccer, baseball, racing, rugby, hockey and even cricket.
Yahoo’s plans, naturally, involve incorporating Citizen Sports’ products into its content offerings and to subsequently allow Yahoo Sports users to enjoy a completely interactive fan experience via dedicate apps or popular social networks like Facebook and Myspace.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed and the deal will likely not be final until well into the second quarter of this year.
