Windows is moving in the wrong direction in mobile according to the latest data from comScore.
Google’s Android ranked as the top smartphone platform for the last three months of 2012 with 53.4% market share (up 0.9 percentage points).
Apple’s share, meanwhile, increased 2 percentage points to 36.3%.
Although Blackberry saw its numbers decline, it remained in third place overall with 6.4%.
The worst news, quite possibly, was reserved for Microsoft, which witnessed its share fall from 3.6% to 2.9%.
Although it comes as no surprise to anyone that Android, iOS, and BlackBerry continue to lead Microsoft by such a wide margin in mobile, it is surprising to see the Windows phone platform take such a dip.
After all, during the 3-month survey period, more than a few snazzy Windows Phone 8 devices debuted from leading Windows phone vendors.
All told, more than 125.9 million U.S. mobile subscribers now carry smartphones. And Microsoft still has a long way to go before it claims a considerable portion of this user base.
