All eyes are on Sprint Tuesday as word comes that the third largest mobile carrier in the United States is planning a media event scheduled for Friday, October 7th.
The news comes less than one week after the Wall Street Journal reported that Sprint will likely begin covering the iPhone this fall upon the release of the iPhone 5.
On Monday, word came that Sprint has begun distributing a “No Comment” internal memo to Sprint employees, yet another move being widely interpreted as proof that a major iPhone announcement is looming.
For now, Sprint will only say that its media event will be used to provide a “strategy update.” Still, given its timing, many industry analysts believe an iPhone announcement, and not just an update on the carrier’s high-speed 4G network plans, may lie at the core of the media event.
Although no Apple event has been publicly confirmed, a growing number of industry analysts and Apple sources say that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant will likely hold a media event of its own between the second and fourth weeks of September to raise the curtain on the iPhone 5.
