Just how important is the mobile experience to modern connected shoppers?
Its importance is such, experts say, that it’s almost impossible to put the degree of importance into words.
Mobile shoppers now convert 160% more often on sites optimized for smartphones, says Bill Siwicki, Managing Editor of Mobile Commerce for Internet Retailer.
Siwicki recently ran down the numbers “just in case retailers need any more evidence that it is absolutely crucial to be prepared this holiday season for consumers on mobile devices, who now dominate traffic and time spent with online retail.”
Citing data from a NetElixir study (which was conducted by looking at conversions from several retailer sites that either were or weren’t optimized for mobile), the smartphone conversion rate was 23% of the overall site conversion rate for non-optimized sites and 60% of the overall site rate for optimized sites.
As if that’s not confirmation enough about the influential power of mobile, try this one on for size.
“In addition to conversion rates,” Siwicki adds, “mobile optimization significantly impacts average order value.”
