Is Apple about to close the gap with Google in the smartphone war?
According to scores of leading Wall Street analysts and industry watchers, iOS 6 is just what the doctor ordered for Apple.
24 hours removed from Apple’s dazzling preview of iOS 6 as WWDC 2012 got underway, there is unprecedented agreement across the mobile landscape.
iOS 6 is projected to help Apple rapidly close in on Android’s leading global smartphone market share.
“We believe this focus on integrating important web partners continues to meaningfully differentiate iOS from Android,” says Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray. Munster estimates Apple will pick up a 10% additional share of the smartphone market in the next 36 months, largely from the momentum of the refreshed iOS which will launch with a new iPhone this fall.
RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani finds himself in agreement with Munster. Daryanani believes the forthcoming enhancements with iOS 6 – like the new 3D Maps app – will help Apple overcome a plethora of advantages that Android may have previously held over Apple.
