Which Product is Apple Expected to Stop Producing This Year?

Which Popular Device is Apple Expected to Stop Producing This YearApple Insider reports that iPad 2 production is poised to wind to a halt soon, possibly well before the end of this year.

Since its debut in March 2011, Apple’s iPad 2 has been one of the company’s top selling devices across all product lines. A hot commodity domestically and abroad, the iPad 2 has remained a bestseller for Apple across the world until only recently.

Even with the launch of two more subsequent hardware revisions — most recently last fall with the fifth-generation iPad Air — the iPad 2 has continued to live on as a legacy device in Apple’s product lineup. Its remaining availability has been somewhat perplexing, suggesting that Apple continued to find success with the device at $399.

“But starting last fall,” Apple Insider reports, “Apple began offering another model at the $399 price point — the iPad mini with Retina display. And while the iPad 2 has had a tremendous run, customers are now said to be opting for the more compact and higher-resolution iPads.”

Sources close to the Apple supply and production channels indicate that the company will likely pull the plug on iPad 2 production in the coming months in order to more evenly promote the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display to all markets around the world.
