What are the latest trends in the global computer market?
Technavio has released a new report with analysis of the key developments expected to impact — positively or negatively — the market through 2020.
For starters, the worldwide mobile computer market could reach $884 billion by 2020, growing at a CAGR of over 4 percent.
“The market is expected to experience revenue growth due to high Internet penetration across the globe and the growing use of devices such as tablets, smartphones, laptops, and notebooks,” notes the report.
It’s the multi-use factor that is creating much of the growth.
“The traditional use of mobile computing devices has changed and they are now used for multiple functions,” said Sunil Kumar Singh, a lead research analyst at Technavio for computing devices. “High demand in the emerging countries in APAC and Eastern Europe will contribute to revenue growth, however, the growth rate is declining due to lower demand from developed areas such as the U.S. and Western Europe, where the markets are saturated.”
The top three emerging trends?
- High acceptance of strategies like bring your own device (BYOD) and corporate owned personally enabled (COPE), encourage employees to use mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops at the workplace. This creates a demand for the integration of mobile computers such as tablets and laptops in organizations.
- Rising investment in mobile computing devices, as companies such as Apple, Amazon, Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft invest substantial amounts into mobile computing devices to enhance user experience.
- Rapid advances in technology, especially in advanced features that are currently under development, including screens of various sizes, design alterations, and removable keyboards.
“Augmented reality is also a possibility as smartphones can help users obtain desired information by just pointing the screen at a particular object. Wearable smart devices such as smartwatches and smart glasses can also be connected to smartphones,” noted Sunil.
The top vendors in the global mobile computer market, according to Technavio analysts, are Apple, Lenovo, Samsung Electronics, Sony, Acer, Asus, Microsoft, and Toshiba.
