Last year, when Facebook purchased the team and technology behind the Oculus Rift VR headset for $2 billion, everyone — from Windows to Mac users — was excited to be privy to the groundbreaking virtual reality technology soon.
Unfortunately, however, it now seems that Mac users will have to wait a bit longer.
Per the details shared in an update on the official Oculus VR blog, the development focus for now remains on Windows, says Atman Binstock, Chief Architect at Oculus and technical director of the Rift.
“Our development for OS X and Linux has been paused in order to focus on delivering a high quality consumer-level VR experience at launch across hardware, software, and content on Windows,” he explains. “We want to get back to development for OS X and Linux but we don’t have a timeline.”
