Beginning at 3:00 a.m. EST on February 3rd, Verizon will initiate the online pre-preorder process for the new Verizon iPhone, which will officially be released on February 10th.
So big is the hype surrounding Verizon’s red-carpet roll out for the hugely popular Apple touchscreen smartphone, the carrier has also launched a countdown clock heralding the iPhone’s debut on the Verizon network.
Over the weekend, Verizon published a teaser splash page on its website, with a running countdown to the precise moment when Verizon customers can make their long awaited purchase at 3:00 a.m. EST.
Verizon, however, had previously notified business customers of the middle of the night launch. The webpage represents the carrier’s first general public announcement of the 3:00 a.m. launch.
Why 3:00 a.m.?
According to Verizon, 3:00 a.m. EST is a fair time to activate the green light, given that its the earliest possible time that February 3rd will officially arrive in all corners of the continental United States.
But if truth be told, it could actually be that a late night roll out simply reduces the chances of Verizon’s website crashing when the flood gates finally open.
While industry anlysts are all over the map regarding just how many iPhones will be sold this year as a result of Verizon’s acquisition, the carrier is preparing for big business itself, noting on the Verizon website that the Verizon iPhone 4 will only be available on a “first come, first serve” basis.”
