Twitter’s New Music App Ready to Go Live

As it turns out, the rumor was true.

On Thursday, Twitter confirmed its acquisition of We Are Hunted, a popular music recommendation service. The purchase was made late last year and Twitter has bee readying a new offering with its freshly acquired talent every since.

According to AllThingsD, the microblogging service plans to launch its new standalone music application this weekend.

The app suggests artists and tracks to users based on a number of personalized signals, including the Twitter accounts a user follows on the microblogging service. Users will be able to listen to clips of music from inside the app, using third-party services like iTunes and SoundCloud; they will also be able to watch music videos provided by Vevo, the music video service owned by Universal Music and Sony.

Mike Isaac and Peter Kafka of AllThingsD indicate that “timing of the launch couldn’t be more appropriate.”

That’s a reference, of course, to this weekend’s kick-off to Coachella, the gargantuan annual music festival.
