Twitter has announced its hiring of the company’s first Vice President of Consumer Marketing.

The executive to get the nod is Pam Kramer, whose new role at Twitter commences this week.

The Wall Street Journal credits the hire as another sign that Twitter is “looking to widen its appeal among consumers and advertisers.”

According to a statement released by Twitter, Kramer is being entrusted with the responsibility to “lead efforts to strengthen Twitter’s brand and tell the Twitter story to mainstream consumers around the world.”

Prior to joining Twitter, Kramer served as general manager at GreenRoad – an environmentally-conscious outfit that championed “green” and generally energy-efficient driving. Before that, Kramer was CMO of E-Trade, where she oversaw large online advertising campaigns, including several for the Super Bowl.

Twitter, the microbloging phenomenon that continues to grow and dominate within the world of social media, is presently engaged in a financing round that could value the company possibly in the neighborhood of $8 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
