Twitter will be a major factor in the media coverage and viewer engagement this year as the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games get underway tomorrow in London.
Or at least Twitter was supposed to be a major factor. It’s pretty difficult to envision a big role for the microblogging giant… if the service is down all over the world.
“People across much of the planet were having problems accessing Twitter on Thursday,” the AP reported this afternoon.
The company directly acknowledged the problem minutes ago without confirming the source of the problem. Twitter says its engineers are “currently working to resolve the issue.”
There is no time table outlined for when Twitter users can expect the service to come back online.
As of this writing, Twitter users in North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are all effected.
MMW will keep you posted in the social networking debacle as further details emerge.
