News of the former Destiny’s Child singer’s own forthcoming child nearly gave Twitter a social media heart attack Sunday, as the microblogging platform saw a record influx of tweets after the recording superstar dropped word of her burgeoning baby bump.

Beyonce’s announcement prompted Twitter users to crank out a staggering 8,868 Tweets per second. By comparison, news of Osama bin Laden’s death last May only saw 5,106 Tweets per second.

The beautiful songstress revealed her pregnancy at the MTV Music Video Awards. Following her performance at the show, Beyonce lovingly rubbed her belly, a move that subsequently sent Twitter into overdrive.

But Beyonce wasn’t the only social media mover of the night. In fact, MTV saw record social media engagement not to mention online viewership of the event (2.3 million video streams).

Additionally, MTV.com drew its biggest VMA audience ever while MTV’s mobile site logged its single biggest day on record, chalking up some 2.7 million mobile views.

MTV called Sunday’s award show “the most social VMA day ever.” And the social media and online viewing analytics back up the claim.
