Twitter Sees Massive User Surge in Super Bowl’s Closing Minutes

michael11 years ago01 mins

As widely anticipated, mobile users were out in full force during yesterday’s Super Bowl XLVI.

As the New York Giants mounted a close come-from-behind victory against the New England Patriots 21-17, Twitter saw enormous activity in the game’s final minutes.

According to revelations directly from the microblogging giant, Twitter was spitting out approximately 12,000 tweets per second during the final three minutes of the game.

A close second in terms of Twitter activity came during Madonna’s halftime performance, which drew about 10,000 tweets per second with an average of 8,000 tweets per seconds for a solid five-minute period.

From the Royal Wedding last year to the death of Steve Jobs, yesterday’s conclusion to Super Bowl XLVI generated more tweets than any other event in modern sports and entertainment history.
