Twitter Expected to Deliver Ann Curry Exit News

michael2 mins

For weeks, NBC ‘Today’ show co-anchor Ann Curry has been subjected to rumors of replacement.

And now, with all signs pointing to her imminent departure, it appears that Curry could be dropped as soon as Friday.

Given the social media search patterns observed in recent days, the masses expect official confirmation of the development to come via Twitter from either NBC directly or another highly credible media source in the know.

“As widely expected,” Newsday reported Wednesday, “Savannah Guthrie will be named the new co-anchor of “Today,” according to a late afternoon story in the Hollywood Reporter – effectively confirming what many inside and outside NBC News have anticipated for weeks.”

As attributed to sources inside the network, Guthrie will be named as soon as a role can be worked out for Ann Curry, who is expected to remain at NBC. Timing is something of a question: A New York Times piece last week said NBC had been working on the transition though Curry had retained outside counsel, well-known Washington attorney Bob Barnett. In other words, it’s all a matter of money at this point.

Ann Curry, who joined NBC’s “Today” show in 1997, is allegedly being blamed – rightly or wrongly so – by NBC for the morning show’s ratings dip since Curry came on board as co-anchor last summer.
