Twitter Acquires Smallthought Systems To Bolster Analytics

On the heels of Twitter announcing the testing of a new in-house URL shortening service, the company today announced that they’ve acquired Smallthought Systems- makers of Dabble DB and Trendly, two analytics solutions.

Though Twitter doesn’t go into many details in its blog post regarding its future plans with Smallthought, it does say the new team that comes with the acquisition will “focus on integrating ideas from Trendly into our current tools and building innovative realtime products for our future commercial partners.”

It’s interesting the acquisition of an analytics provider comes a day after announcing an in-house URL shortening solution.  The company is obviously preparing itself for its future monetization efforts, to which analytics and URL shortening would be vital to their strategy.  We should hopefully be hearing much more about what this all means soon, so stay tuned.
