NBC News morning powerhouse the Today Show has partnered with Zumobi to launch the official Today application for the iPhone and iPod touch, an offering that will provide millions of viewers mobile access to the program’s news, entertainment and lifestyle content on their handset.
Although you would likely have anticipated a flurry of similar apps by now from the smorgasbord of morning news and cable networks, this application is actually among the most elaborate and well-developed of mobile offerings from a morning news program.
The free application, available now in the iTunes App store, delivers videos, top stories and photos from a variety of Today topics (interviews with newsmakers and features on health, food and wine, entertainment, relationships and fashion.)
The news comes as a boost to The Zumobi Network, which continues striving to develop high-profile mobile media applications for next-generation smartphones.
Ironically, Today has kept a low profile for their mobile app so it will be interesting to see how fast and how popular the new app will become in the days and weeks ahead.
