The Magic Comes to Mobile Marketing

So far, a number of NBA teams (most notable, the New York Knicks) have ventured into mobile marketing, primarily for the purpose of hyping ticket sales and cross promotional opportunities with advertisers and other venue-related events (like concerts and fan-rallies at Madison Sqaure Garden).

Keeping up with technology through a new texting program, the Orlando Magic have responded to the shortcomings of the mobile marketing endeavors of other NBA franchises by launching a campaign that makes sense for real fans.

With scores, stats, breaking news, insider information, and, yes, the obligatory “special ticket offers,” the Orlando Magic are off and running with a new messaging system called “Magic Text.” In addition, “Magic Text” is also incorporated into the in-arena, in-game elements at all home games, such as voting for the Subway Sub of the Game, Tug Of War, Magic Moment and Text to Screen on the Jumbotron.

I’m not a Magic fan, but I like how this works. To check it out yourself, text “FANTASTIC” to 57375. “Magic Text” is a free program, but standard text messaging rates do apply.

“Magic Text” is powered by FanDrive Media, which has worked with 25 major sports properties over the past year.
