T-Mobile confirmed in the early morning hours of Monday that the carrier has reached an extensive agreement with Verizon to license AWS spectrum in key markets around the U.S.

The result of the arrangement will be a boost for T-Mobile USA and its subscribers. The bolstered spectrum will, needless to say, vastly improve upon the carrier’s burgeoning 4G network.

The timing also couldn’t be better. T-Mobile is now actively preparing (and advertising) for the LTE network rollout in 2013.

“This is good for T-Mobile and good for consumers because it will enable T-Mobile to compete even more vigorously with other wireless carriers,” says T-Mobile chief Phillipp Humm. “We anticipate FCC approval later this summer, in time for us to incorporate this new spectrum into our network modernization and the rollout of LTE services next year.”

The ink on the deal won’t dry, however, until the government approves the deal. As of this writing, no major objections on the part of the FCC are expected.

To tell the truth I'm a bit surprised that they reached the agreement so fast. And I'm waiting for 2013!
