Survey: Teens Likely Buyers of New Smartwatches

Survey Teens Likely Buyers of New SmartwatchesThe findings of a new survey conducted by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster reveal that smartwatches are hot commodities among… teenagers.

In particular, Apple’s rumored iWatch may be a blockbuster product with young adults.

A survey of 7,500 teens indicates a strong penchant for iOS products. 61% of teens surveyed own an iPhone (that’s up from 55% last October).

Munster, however, was most interested in the expanding interest in the iWatch. 17% of teenagers say they would buy an iWatch if Apple launched it for $350 sometime in 2014. Last fall, only 12% said the same.

Remarkably, 6% of U.S. teens already own a smartwatch, “slightly higher than expected given the relative lack of smartwatches on the market.”

Munster estimates that Apple will sell between 5-10 million iWatches during the product’s first full year of availability.
