Regardless of whether you’re a fan of sports entertainment and WWE programming, you have to admire the tremendous power and poise behind the WWE’s social media presence.
The WWE’s proficiency will be on full display this weekend as the company presents WrestleMania 29.
According to ESPN, the WWE and its performers have made more than 150 million social media connections, with about 100 million coming on Facebook and 50 million on Twitter.
“Vince [McMahon] has said for a long time that social media is going to transform our company,” Perkins Miller, WWE executive vice president of digital media, said this week. “WrestleMania is our biggest event of the year.”
Tonight, the WWE CEO is promising a #bigreveal on social media around 10 p.m. Eastern.
The primary WWE account has nearly 2.3 million Twitter followers. It has 11.7 million Facebook likes on its official page, leading the NFL, MLB, and NHL.
“This weekend,” says social media and marketing analyst Ian Hayes, “will be one of the biggest social media events of the year. We will see million of tweets, Facebook posts, and general chatter about the WWE. Anyone who runs a business and doesn’t understand social media should pay attention to the WWE on Sunday. It will be an expert crash course in everything one company can do right.”
