Ad Age, together with Trendrr, today published its Top 10 Foursquare “Check-in” Chart which tracks the number of checkins large brands generate on a weekly basis. Topping out the list was Starbucks, with nearly 150,000 checkins tracked over the last seven days.
That number’s nearly three times higher than second place McDonalds, which generated nearly 55,000 Foursquare checkins over the past week. Target, Walmart and Apple rounded out the top five with 42,000, 40,000 and 22,000 checkins respectively.
More interesting in the data is the week-over-week change these major brands experience in terms of checkin totals. For this week, Ikea raced into 7th place with a 74% boost over the prior week, while Burger King showed growth as well with a 17% week-over-week increase. Several brands are showing declines in the number of checkins they receive, with Target and Best Buy both down 14% over the prior week.
These are always interesting stats, but it’d be nice to have more data to compare, such as the number of promotions/rewards/offers used, how many checkins they receive on other LBS apps like Gowalla and so on. It’s easy to see why Starbucks generates the most checkins, as they have an incredible amount of stores, but it’d be interesting to see what Ikea did to generate such a large number of checkins so quickly, for example.
