Sprint Send LoveI just caught the commercial during the Patriots Chargers game. Sprint, on the heels of announcing 4000 layoffs and shuttering 125 retail locations has launched a nationwide unlimited text plan for $10 per month. It’s a great looking campaign for a company that had an incredibly difficult week.

They also announced a $200 million dollar accounting charge that will be associated with the severances and layoffs. That’s a lot a scratch for a company that is struggling. Not that layoffs are ever good but it’s nice to see a company come up with severance and in this case it appears to be a considerable amount.

    Hey Vic,

Yes, they are rolling out an unlimited text plan. However, this is only for their “Power Pack Plans”. If you not, then it is the standard 1000 sms for $10 or 300 sms for $5.

Remember, Sprint was also the one that raised the typical ten cent charge per SMS to fifteen cents back at the end of 2006, thus causing the likes of Verizon and ATT/Cingular to also raise their one off SMS charges. Then, Sprint raised their per SMS charges to twenty cents at the end of 2007.

I certainly understand that they are trying to get folks to sign up for their packaged plans. However, by raising the per SMS charge what they are effectively doing is preventing those that might want to start to try text messaging from doing it.

So, nice unlimited plan, but it comes with a bunch of * * *’s.
