Just in time for a legion of mobile shoppers to search out the best deals available on President’s Day, Sprint today powered up its 4G LTE network in several key major markets.
As of this morning, Sprint’s 4G LTE is available in parts of San Francisco, New York City, Washington, D.C., and some Florida cities including Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami.
Sprint first confirmed plans to flip the switch in early 2013, but an exact timetable was never announced publicly.
“Deployment is just beginning in San Francisco,” a rep. for the nation’s third largest carrier tells The Verge. “Coverage area is somewhat hard to describe at this stage because sites generally aren’t contiguous. There are sites on air in and around SF, kind of like popcorn.”
Customers are encouraged to check specific coverage in their own regions on Sprint’s website.
Sprint’s 4G LTE network is on pace to cover 250 million customers by early 2014.
