Despite being viewed by some as the sinking ship of the smartphone world, Research in Motion’s BlackBerry smartphone received a lifeline of support this week from popular music streaming service Spotify.
Beginning this week, Spotify is officially available in the BlackBerry App World storefront.
“With access to a global music library, Spotify is designed to be one of the best ways for you to have the world’s music collection at your fingertips,” the smartphone maker says.
The Spotify service is currently available in 15 countries around the world, and Spotify is compatible with a range of devices running BlackBerry OS 5.0 and higher.
“As with all Spotify mobile apps,” Donny H. cautions on the BlackBerry Blog, “users will need a Spotify Premium subscription to stream on-demand from their catalogue. Non-Premium users can take advantage of a 48-hour free trial directly from the app or sign up to a 30-day free trial to give it a spin.”
So can Spotify bring back a little excitement to the BlackBerry base? For now, it’s clear that Spotify certainly won’t hurt.
