Sony Makes Online Sales History with 'The Interview'

Sony Makes Online Sales History with 'The Interview'Once again proving that controversy creates cash, Sony has scored with the online release of its headline-making comedy, The Interview.

In less than a week, Sony has reached a new online sales record. The Interview has already generated more than $18 million to become Sony’s new all time best-selling online film.

Although the film’s weekend release on iTunes has helped propel sales even further, the biggest source of revenue at Sony has been Google.

Sources tell Re/Code that the “vast majority” of online sales can, for the time being, be attributed to Google’s YouTube and Play stores.

Additionally, Sony says “The Interview” raked in more than a cool million in ticket sales on Christmas Day, which is when the comedy debuted in a limited theatrical release.
