Social Media Chatter Shows iPhone 5 Overcoming Galaxy S4

According to the latest research efforts of esteemed Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Apple shouldn’t be too concerned with the upcoming release of Samsung’s Galaxy S4.

Why not, you ask? Because social media chatter indicates that the iPhone 5 is still the resounding smartphone of choice among consumers.

The iPhone had 5X as many tweets as the S4 had on each phone’s launch day. Therefore, Munster believes, “that the standard iPhone will essentially maintain its market share in the high-end of the market through CY13 (low 40% worldwide).”

Scientific? We’ll leave that up to you to decide.

All told, Business Insider summarizes, 73 percent of the iPhone 5 tweets during last year’s launch were positive. But despite Munster’s optimistic prediction for Apple, 81% of tweets were positive for the S4. Munster, however, believes this was the case because “the iPhone 5 was well telegraphed, thus some consumers may have been let down that there were no surprises.”

So… do you believe social media chatter can dictate the outcome of iPhone 5’s war with Galaxy S4, particularly in light of the fact that the S4 hasn’t even launched yet? Please weigh in with a thought or comment below.
