SMS has grown so commonplace and convenient in the emerging mobile market of India that it’s soon to be the biggest channel for issuing complaints about public transportation.
According to announcement Friday in The Times of India, the transport department disclosed that an “SMS complaint service” has been formally approved by the government.
The system will be in place by mid-October to “redress the issues of the general public.”
The system… will generate a unique identification number, through which he will be able to follow up. Desai said that the citizens would also be able to get through the SMS service, status of applications made to the department for seeking a license, or renewals or appointment.
“The Infotech Corporation of Goa is the agency who will be dealing with the system,” says Director of Transport Arun Desai. “Once it is operational, the general public will be able to send their complaints directly to the respective assistant director of transport (ADT).”
