Samsung Turns The Tide Against Apple in Japan

One week ago, Samsung was walloped by a massive $1 billion verdict reached against the tech giant in a contentious trial with Apple that was months in the making.

Apple subsequently requested that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California immediately ban the sale of some of the hottest Android phones on the market.

While some were quick to write off Samsung and herald the company’s immediate fall last weekend, today is bringing with it a different story.

A Japanese court has just ruled against Apple’s claim that Samsung willfully infringed on one of its utility patents.

This small victory, however, could prove very meaningful in the big picture.

“We welcome the court’s decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple’s intellectual property,” Samsung said in a statement after the verdict was read.

Not surprisingly, Apple isn’t commenting for now.

It is widely expected that Samsung will fight the verdict reached in the stirring conclusion of last week’s trial here in the United States.

Stay tuned.
