Word surfaced Thursday that consumer electronics giant Samsung has gobbled up another company.
This time, the freshly acquired property is cloud services outfit mSpot.
If you’re not familiar with the service, mSpot allows users to stream movies and music to mobile devices.
Despite offering a quality service, mSpot has not successfully emerged as quickly as it would have likely preferred. And for that reason, the Samsung acquisition makes sense for both players.
“Its technology,” the New York Times reports, “could help Samsung develop entertainment offerings for its phones and other products.”
Samsung may have already begun to do that: Last week, the company introduced a new smartphone, the Galaxy S III, which includes an improved version of its Music Hub cloud service.
Although it isn’t yet clear what will become of the merger of tools and talents, one thing is clear: Samsung doesn’t want to be left in the dust amidst a massive tidal wave of companies acquiring small digital music services.
