Samsung Goes Green with “Blue Earth”

Just about everything is going green these days.

And from the looks of it, our cell phones are next to get an eco-friendly makeover.

After being previewed earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress, Blue Earth, the first “solar charging phone” is preparing for launch by Samsung, the creator of this new device designed for people concerned about the environment.

Down to its packaging, this phone is the epitome of “environmentally friendly.”

With a solar panel on the back of the sleek and slender phone, the solar charging capability is said to be adequate for most users yet it can also be charged with a normal adapter.

Along with a host of small “green” features, like the “Ecowalk” function which calculates the amount of steps you take, Blue Earth will likely be a hot commodity this summer.

But until the device hits the market, it is difficult to assess any and all drawbacks to this otherwise cool-looking and cool-sounding mobile device.

“Samsung’s ‘The Blue Earth Dream’ demonstrates our small but meaningful commitments for the future and our environment,” said JK Shin, executive VP of the Mobile Communication Division of Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to achieving the highest eco-status with our customers and business partners by providing the best eco-products and promoting eco-activities.”
