Rumor: iPad mini Refresh on The Way

The second generation iPad mini is on the way. That much we can gather from a new report out of the far east suggesting that trial production is already underway.

Sources with Taiwan-based Apple suppliers said earlier Sunday that AU Optronics is piloting the production of the 7.9-inch iPad mini 2.

A growing number of industry analysts believe that a spring refresh of the pint-sized iPad is most likely.

When the iPad mini 2 does, in fact, arrive, we are told that it will sport a Retina display with a pixel density of 324 pixels per inch.

“The model’s resolution and pixel density stand at 2048×1536 pixels and 324ppi, respectively,” reads an insider report from BrightWire on Monday.

If that information proves accurate, it would mean that the iPad mini 2 display would be superior to that of the current iPad 4.

As of this writing, no other details – or even speculation – on pricing or availability were made public.
