Peter Misek of Jefferies told investors Wednesday morning that Apple is planning to hold its first media event of 2013 next month.
“Channel checks indicate Apple has a product event in March that is Apple-TV related (possibly an iTV SDK introduction),” Misek revealed today. “We think a Sep/Oct iTV launch is being targeted.”
While it isn’t yet entirely clear if the announcement will pertain to a refreshed Apple TV or perhaps something bigger – the formal introduction to Apple’s rumored iTV, possibly – we are told that Apple is determined to give developers an update on the company’s 2013 television aspirations.
As with any key Apple product launch or refresh, it is just as important for Apple’s developers to be prepared as Apple itself.
Of course, if we are to get our first look at the so-called iTV next month, it will put Apple on pace to release the Apple-branded HDTV sometime in late 2013.
“We expect a price point of $1,500+ for a 42” to 55” model and also expect a below corporate average [gross margin],” Misek said this morning. “Apple is likely to largely rely on leveraging content via partnerships with existing pay-TV operators.”
