Popular GroceryIQ iPhone App Acquired By Coupons, Inc.

GroceryIQ, which remains the most popular iPhone app in the “Lifestyle” category, has been acquired by Coupons.com to offer integrated mobile coupons within the grocery app that averages over a 1,000 downloads per day.

GroceryIQ comes preloaded with more than 130,000 items commonly found in supermarkets across America, and enables users to organize their personal shopping lists by store, aisle, buying history, favorites, as well as customizing item sizes, etc.  The popularity and the nature of the app proved itself perfect for mobile/digital coupon integration.

The integration is still under development, but is planned for release as “version 2” sometime in February.  All current users who have already purchased the app will get the upgrade for free.  There’s no word on whether the price for the app will change after the transformation is complete.

The new coupon-enabled application will match shopper’s grocery lists with Coupons.com coupons, as well as provide multiple ways for consumers to redeem the coupons from their handset.  The free upgrade will also allow users to download layouts of nearby supermarkets based on ZIP code and organize their shopping list by store layout to save time shopping.  There hasn’t been any mention of just how the coupons will be redeemed at the POS, so it will be interesting to see which method they choose and how popular it becomes with end-users.
