Parents Go Mobile for Back to School Shopping

mgaming85% of parents will use smartphones to help them shop for back-to-school this year.

That’s the key finding released this week from Retale, an advertising platform for retailers and brands.

The organization has just published data from its 3rd annual “Back-to-School Mobile Shopper Report” – a commissioned survey polling 1,000 parents with school-aged children grades K-12, examining their shopping behavior for the 2016 back-to-school season.

So what else did the data show?

  • Buying directly from mobile devices is up 5 points this year – 42% vs. 37%
  • 89% decide on where to shop based on access to mobile deals / coupons
  • 80% say at least 70% of their B2S purchases will happen in-store
  • 43% are likely to spend $100-300 on their B2S shopping

“The use of mobile to help with back-to-school shopping has risen nearly 10 percentage points year-over-year, according to our data,” said Pat Dermody, President of Retale. “It’s clear that the omnichannel customer journey continues to define the way most people approach their purchases, and people continue to discover the advantages of leveraging mobile in their shopping.”
