Those numbers for online video watching just keep climbing.
Yep — it’s a veritable chorus of “I scream, you scream, we all scream for the small screen.”
It was bound to happen, as smartphone sales keep rising. Once a person owns a smartphone, they rarely leave it to saunter back to the desktop. Why bother?
Now a new infographic created by comScore notes that more than 40 percent of all online TV viewing is done on mobile devices (it’s 31 percent on smartphones and 12 percent on tablets).
“Smartphones are more popular than tablets for online video, and that’s even more true for millennials or young adults,” notes OnlineVideo. “ComScore found that 60 percent of millennials watch online TV or video on their smartphones at least once a month. Moreover, 15 percent of the same group watches video on their smartphones every day.”
Two things (at minimum) are going to make those figures just keep climbing. First, smartphone ownership continues to rise. Second, marketers have caught on and are making their videos so viewable and enjoyable on the small screen that there’s no reason for consumers to travel to a different device.
People are liking those small screens. They’re positively screaming for them.
