One Billion Mobile Devices May Face Major Security Threat by 2017More than one billion devices on LTE networks may face a global security threat like no other within three years.

That’s according to Dr. Martin Nuss, CTO of Vitesse Semiconductor.

The rapid growth of the BYOD market, coupled with an explosion in 4G networks fed by small cell deployment, is creating an IT security threat that the global market needs to urgently address, Dr. Nuss warns in a new report.

Dr. Nuss observed that while mobile networks are inherently more secure than WiFi hotspots, the emergence of small cell base stations required for LTE and LTE-A capacity improvements poses a new security risk.

“BYOD is revolutionizing Enterprise connectivity, with the real potential to enable a better-connected and more productive workforce,” he adds. “As an industry, however, we need to focus on overcoming this potential security threat so that 4G LTE networks can continue to flourish and businesses can reap the benefits of BYOD, while keeping their networks secure.”
