Nokia’s digital-maps company Navteq today acquired 18-employee mobile marketing firm Acuity Mobile for an undisclosed amount. The move highlights Nokia and Navteq’s interest in location-based advertising technology and solutions.
Developed in 2000, the Washington D.C.-based firm offers patented technology to build out complete mobile marketing packages that can be operated at national volume.
Acuity Mobile’s Embedded Mobile Advertising Platform (eMAP) is a patented technology that enables what they call “Spot Relevance” – the ability to deliver targeted marketing content to the right person, at the right time, in the right location.
In June, Aquity partnered with retail-brand Urban Outfitters to increase mobile marketing efforts. “By providing this customer experience, we hope to communicate with our customers in a targeted and relevant way and engage them in a new and shopping program right from their mobile device,” said Dmitri Siegel, Managing Director of Urban Outfitters Direct, in a release.
Earlier this year, Navteq launched NAVTEQ LocationPoint advertising which enables advertisers to reach and engage consumers where and when they are making shopping and purchasing decisions. Navteq has been leveraging Acuity Mobile technologies to meet the increasing demand for location-aware advertising services as the volume of location-aware devices and applications has grown.
