Newsweek Ending Print Edition of Magazine

One of the most widely respected and most recognized names on the newsstand is coming to an end as a printed publication.

Newsweek magazine, which debuted in 1933, is effectively ending its venerable print edition with the Decenter 31st, 2012 edition.

The magazine, however, will still exist, but strictly as an online entity. The digital version will be reintroduced in early 2013 as a tablet-optimized publication.

“Our business has been increasingly affected by the challenging print advertising environment, while Newsweek’s online and e-reader content has built a rapidly growing audience through the Apple, Kindle, Zinio and Nook stores,” says Newsweek editor-in-chief Tina Brown. “Tablet use has grown rapidly among our readers and with it the opportunity to sustain editorial excellence through swift, easy digital distribution.”
