MTV Brings Music ID to Sprint Android Phones

MTV is expanding its already considerably expansive mobile presence by extending the reach of Music ID, a complete mobile music experience available exclusively on certain Sprint Android devices: LG Optimus S, Sanyo Zio and Samsung Transform.

According to MTV, music fans can now keep tabs on their favorite artists, stay up-to-date on pop culture news, listen to their favorite music, and discover new bands on-the-go through MTV Music ID.

The partnership between MTV and Sprint is poised to benefit the wireless carrier every bit as much as the music network. “MTV Music ID is a way for our customers to simply and easily get a phone that is completely personalized with the MTV news that’s important to them,” said David Owens, vice president-Consumer Marketing at Sprint.

MTV, on the other hand, isn’t looking to compete for space in the crowded Android app market – a market teeming with better than 100,000 mobile applications.

Instead, users will only have to click the MTV Music ID icon on their device. It will then automatically loads apps, widgets, ringtones and wallpapers, all tailored by MTV “to meet their customers’ musical interests.”

“MTV Music ID provides music fans with an on-the-go all-inclusive music experience for access to favorite MTV and third-party music content through multiple music-centric apps and widgets,” said Dermot McCormack, an executive with MTV Networks. “Sprint ID is an innovation for Android, and we’re excited to be a part of this unique service.”
