Mozilla has gone browsing in iPad territory.
According to a new report from CNET, Mozilla is currently developing a new Web browser that will challenge Safari.
The namesake behind the Firefox desktop Web browser is actively readying “Junior,” which is billed as “an iPad browser that makes browsing more fun, more ergonomic and re-thinks browser user experience from the ground up.”
“We wanted to make something entirely new. We wanted to look into how we could reinvent the browser for a new form factor,” Firefox product designer Alex Limi says.
The browser in development was outlined at the company’s Product Design Strategy team late last week in a video highlighting Junior.
In the video, Safari on iPad is called “a miserable experience.”
“There are a lot of reasons we should be on iOS even though we can’t bring our rendering engine there,” Limi said, adding that Mozilla doesn’t yet have a “vehicle on one of the biggest consumer platforms in the world.”
So… will you turn to Mozilla’s “Junior” instead of Safari for future iPad browsing? Please weigh in with a thought or comment below.
