Mobile Mix Report Highlights Key Device Developments

On Thursday, Millennial Media published its latest Mobile Mix Report and the findings regarding connected mobile devices are proving of interest to the mobile marketing community.

“Today, we’re happy to release a special Q1 edition of our Mobile Mix report,” writes Jamie Fellows, SVP of Product. “The report includes data on the top mobile devices, manufacturers and operating systems on our global platform, and unique to this specific report, we included a new section on global tablet trends.”

The Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Amazon Kindle Fire were the top tablets on the Millennial Media platform in Q1, the report states, and all three were among the Top 20 Mobile Devices.

Apple remained the leading manufacturer on Millennial Media’s platform and the iPhone was the leading individual phone.

Android was the leading OS on the platform with 49 percent of the total impressions (and 15 of the top 20 phones). Samsung was the second leading manufacturer, and had 4 of the top 20 mobile phones on the platform.

“Non-Phone Connected Devices” (tablets, MP3 players, e-readers, etc.) increased 33 percent quarter-over-quarter and made up 20 percent of all impressions.

Not surprisingly, gaming was the top app category and grew 10 percent quarter-over-quarter.

Saving the best for last, Millennial Media found that mobile video views increased 958 percent year-over-year.
