Mobile Dominated eCommerce Sales to Close Out 2014

Mobile Dominated eCommerce Sales to Close Out 2014According to the details of a new report shared with MMW, 70% of consumers did their online shopping primarily on smartphones and tablets in the home stretch of the holiday shopping season.

The folks at Fluent say the most impressive tidbit from their 2014 Post-Holiday Survey could very well be that more consumers reported using mobile phones and tablets for their online holiday shopping this season than desktop computers.

While brick and mortar outlets continued to reign as the primary destination for holiday purchases in 2014 (64.5%), when it came to e-commerce, 69.4% of digital shoppers primarily used their mobile devices – smartphones (41.6%) and tablets (27.7%) – with the remaining 30.6% using desktops.

“By far, the most interesting and exciting finding from our survey was that more people reported shopping through their mobile devices than desktop PCs,” said Matt Conlin, president and co-founder of Fluent. “This reflects the tremendous strides that retailers have made in building great mobile shopping experiences as well as greater consumer comfort in shopping through their handheld devices.”

The report was based on the survey results provided last month by 2,437 American adults.
